Making messenger stop asking for an antivirus

Whenever I try to exchange files with my friend, particularly those we create
using Visual Studio 2008, we are asked to have an antivirus. We can't send of
recieve any sort of files with a .EXE or .DOC in them under any circumstances
unless we have one.

I don't have an antivirus, and I don't want one either, since I find it
needless. It just drags my computer's performance down, and I'm not stupid -
I know how to keep my PC clean anyway. Something like Sophos Antivirus, AVG
and so on just kills my performance with its constant scanning without
finding anything.

Is there any way to make MSN stfu so I can send projects to my friend
without having a program that kills my performance off? I can't seem to get
that to work. I know it's virusfree since I made it with Microsofts own
program anyway! >.<

Greetings,

The workaround is to simply set a program as an antivirus in Messenger's options (Alt key on
keyboard to bring up menu bar, Tools, Options, File Transfer). It doesn't matter what the
application is or what it does as long as it exits with error code 0. If fact, since you're
an application developer, make your own in VS, it should take about 10 seconds.

Be aware however, that you will still get a "you are about to receive an unsafe" file and
have to click Accept to the dialog when you receive one of these files. That you can't turn
off, but at least it sends.

Hi

You have no idea how stupid I feel right now. =P Thanks for that. I just
opened Visual Studio 2008 and wrote: main int(){return 0;}, built it and
linked it.

I dunno, I sortof had this assumption that, since there was this whole
security center which could intelligently detect antivirus programs, that you
would've taken use of this in the development of the Windows Live package.

Well, guess I couldn't have been more wrong. The workaround works.

PS: I'm not a real developer. It's just a hobby (yet).

Thanks

Hi,

Glad I could be of assistance. I could go on at length at my opinion of what should be done
about worms and viruses in Messenger, but I'll spare you the bandwidth cost.

Happy coding
