I have an HP Omnibook 6000 with plug-in CD-ROM and DVD modules F2017A and
F2015A. After installing Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - March 2006
(KB890830), these modules stopped working. The Device Manager gives the
following error message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".

Has anyone had similar problems? Solutions?

Thanks!

Have a look at this article
CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39 After You
Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314060
Even if you haven't had Easy CD Creator installed.

This solved the problem. Thanks a lot!

I haven't had Easy CD Creator installed, but I did uninstall the Canon
ZoomBrowser software, which has some kind of "backup to CD" feature. Could
this have caused the problem?
