malicious software removal tool kb890830

on 3/15/06 kb890830 was automatically installed and I've been having trouble
with my computer running certain programs that lauch very slowly, e.g. Axon
programs, Igor, Adobe Illistrator, and some MS Office programs act a little
funny too. If I copy something in excel and then try to close the program, it
takes an excessive amount of time to close. I work in a electrophysiology lab
and all the PC's in the lab have the same problem, they all run XP
professional. I've tried to install the office updates, but that did not
alleviate the problem. I also tried to restore the computer to before 3/15/06
and that was a no go as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool runs only once
when it's downloaded and installed. Can't see how it would then be
causing the issues you've described.
Check the mrt.log located in the WINDOWS\debug folder to see the results
of the scan.
On 3/15, which other updates were installed ?
