Hi Everyone,

Is the malious software removal tool that Microsoft sometimes includes in it
updates part of Windows Defender or is it something else altogether. If it's
not part of Defender - how do you run it? I can't find it on my computer.

Thanks for your help

Jim

The MRT is an "On Demand" anti malware scanner and has limited malware target list. A new
version is generated once per month and it is not a Windows Defender component.

You can download it manually from Microsoft or is can be obtained and executed
automatically on each month's Patch Tuesday.

The file is;
%windir%\system32\MRT.exe

You can see the switch parameters with...
%windir%\system32\MRT.exe /?

The log file is...
%windir%\Debug\mrt.log

Running the following command line with launch a full scan and clean malware automatically
without user intervention.
%windir%\system32\MRT.exe /f:y

Do you have a tutorial on how to wipe your a** also. Geesh!

Do you really need one to replace:

Start | Run | MRT.exe | highlight MRT | press Enter | - follow
instructions.
