The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool helps
remove specific, prevalent malicious software from computers that
are running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

It downloads once a month and silently checks your machine for malicious
software...it's protecting you. Don't understand that being a problem.

Is there a specific list of exactly what Malicious may or may not consist of
exactly?

Peter,
I download everytime it comes out, my question is: Is there a way to check
it results or tell if it even working? Maybe log files or output messages?

The utility is an "On Demand" AV scanner
It runs silently, by defauilt, in the background...

You find the latest version as...
%windir%\system32\MRT.exe

Command line switches...

/? or /HELP = displays the command line switches
/Q = quiet
/N = detect only
/F = force extended scan
/F:Y = force extended scan and automatically clean infected files

The following is the resultant log file...

%windir%\Debug\mrt.log

David,
Thank you for the flag for "force extended scan and automatically clean
infected files", I am hoping it scan more than the default setup. Is there a
way to run it with the "Scheduled Tasks" function to run overnight? I try
Wed. night and checked this morning and it was waiting for me to click
"Next". Is there another flag that auto continues and exits from the
software?
