I am having some problems with my Vista laptop. I had a lot of spyware
issues that got all cleaned up an anti-malware program. Now that th
pop-ups & all that crap is gone, I am still having issues. They are:

1) I can't get my check disk to work. When I click to start it, it say
it can't cause the drive is in use. I click to schedule it and nothin
happens. I try to do it through the cmd screen & it accepts it fo
reboot, but when I reboot, nothing happens.

2) Using Internet Explorer, I can't download programs. I tried t
download Firefox & AOL. If I click RUN to start the download a box open
showing how many MB and the progress, but when complete, nothin
happens. When I try to save it to my desktop, same thing, nothin
happens.

I am having other smaller issues, but if I can somehow fix #1 & #
above, I think all else will fall into place.

HELP PLEASE.

Glen

Did you get a recovery disc with the computer?

USE it... after saving whatever data files you absolutely must have,
because using the recovery disc will delete everything and return the
computer to out-of-the-box condition.

Your system has been badly compromised from the sound of it, and using
the recovery disc or reinstalling Windows is probably the only valid
choice you have.

After that many (how many) spyware and malware the only thing that you should do is
to flatten the OS and rebuild. (reformat and re-install)

Your only reasonable course of action is to flatten the HD.

Did you turn UAC off and you were running with admin-rights on the Internet?
