With ActiveSync 4.x Microsoft removed features as well as improved security.
With subsequent releases they have not added back the features that existing
in 3.x. The particular issue you spoke about requires the user to answer a
prompt. Microsoft chose to avoid prompting the user. I do not have details
on why.
A way to deal with this is to use Intellisync from
www.pumatech.com which
does allow you to prompt before replacing the items.

feature.
