why is MSN eventualy going to make the older messengers unusable? and what
happens if 9 doesn't work with a particular computer?

Like all/most of the forced upgrades, it's because of a security hole:

thanks for the link this is the sfirst time I hace heard of other messenger
versaions becomming unusuable though ...

Hi,

I think it would maybe take two hands to count up the amount of times this has happened.

The 6.x versions went out because of a security hole, 4.x wise, anything prior to 4.7, and
other more specific OS ones.
