I don't know about doing that, but I turned indexing off on all my drives
since I almost never search for things using search anyway - I always just
open the folder I need and pull up the file. if you don't use search, there
is no reason I see for leaving indexing on. And from what I understand,
indexing just speeds up searching anyway - doesn't disable it.

If you leave your PC for a couple days to index the drive, the performance
will eventually get back to normal. I would leave it on to be honest with
you.

Well, you have to understand, if you have thousands of files, it will not
index everything in the blink of an eye.

It should be 'satire' for 'no more than half an hour'.

The view that it takes a 'couple of days' is an uncorrected fallacy that's
been perpertrating this group since its outset.

It is also my understanding, perhaps incorrect, that you can selectively
choose the file extensions you want to be indexed, you can exclude full text
search which will accelerate indexing by a few orders of magnitude and even
exclude folders you do not need.

Am I correct?

Sure. Go and buy some index cards and have at it. Oh yeh, buy a dozen Bics
as well. Hopefully your system will idle long enough to let you finish and
by then, hopefully, Vista will be just a distant bad memory of Microsoft's
attempts at creating an "operating system".

Cheers.
