I have had Vista since it's been released back at the beginning of
2007. If anyone is having problems removing a device from the mobile
device center, try this:
1. Disconnect the device.
2. Use the task manager to stop the process Mobsync.exe
3. Use services.msc to stop the services "Windows Mobile-2003-based
device connectivity" and "Windows Mobile-based device connectivity"
4. Use regedit.exe...
4a Perform a search for your device's name. EX: my device is named
TyTN, so I searched the registry for the string of "tytn"
4b These strings should fall under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners"and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Portable Devices\Devices"
4c. In the first entry, there will be a string of letters, numbers, or
a combo of the two EX:"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE
Services\Partners\1f93ad19". I would have deleted the entire key
"1f93ad19".
4d. In the second entry, you will find all of the devices that may
connect to your computer... such as hard drives, so be careful. Only
delete devices that start with "ACTIVESYNC"
5. Reconnect your device.
5a. If the mobile device center does not start, use the following to
start it: "%windir%\WindowsMobile\wmdc.exe"
5b It may also be necessary to restart the above services, as well, if
they don't start.
Good Luck!!!
