Many Annoying Systems Sounds Sporadically Enabled

Hi: Over 2 months ago I started experiencing system sounds for EVERY
action/click I performed on my system. I wasn't able to pinpoint the
cause/source of the problem. However, I did notice that under the Sounds tab
in the Sound utility that can be found in the Control Panel, that there was
an extra Sound Scheme called "Windows Default (Modified)". This scheme
enabled sound for MANY of the COMMON tasks. The solutions was to delete this
scheme or select the original UNmodified "Windows Default" scheme. However,
the problem kept recurring every few weeks to a month and each time I had to
remove that "Windows Default (Modified)" scheme from the Sounds utility.

Is anyone aware of this problem and how to solve it completely?

These few other peoples have experienced the same problem:

Thanks,

Hi Rasheed - This may sound like an overly simple answer to your problem, but
I have my computer set this way -
Control Panel>Sound>Sounds>Sound Scheme>No Sounds. I have no sounds
whatsoever. Be aware that changes to settings elsewhere in Personalization
may change this setting. Always go back and verify that "No Sounds" is still
set.
Also, some downloaded programs bring their own sounds that have to be shut
off. Wayne

Wayne: Thanks for your response, it is very similar to the temporary solution
that I mentioned in my original post. The only difference is that instead of
selecting "Windows Default" you select "No Sound".

I prefer to have the default system sounds enabled because I can tell when
important things take place or complete via these audio alerts. My problem is
that ever-so-often almost ALL my system sounds (or at least the annoying
ones) get enabled even for VERY simple things as closing a window. It would
be nice to know what is causing this to happen whether it be a bug, virus or
a software that I use.

Rasheed - After I posted I realized that it was the wrong answer. I have
vague memories that when I first got my Vista I had a strange beep. Not loud
but for no reason.
Since the first thing I did was to shut off all sounds, I have no idea what
caused it. Wayne
