Actually, its not called a Repair 'upgrade', but the Repair option is part
of the new and improved Recovery Environment tools in Windows Vista. When
you start from your Windows Vista installation DVD, it checks for errors in
your Windows Vista installation on your hard disk and tries to fix any
broken system files it finds. It does not affect your personal files,
settings or applications.
