How many times Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929) will be instal

Every day windows update warn me that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929) is
ready to be installed, I have always say yes to the install and looking to my
update history Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929) is being installed many
times. Is this normal? How can I prevent this update to continue being
installed?

If Automatic Updates keeps being offering SP3 for installation, all previous
attempts to install have failed.

When the Windows Update final version of SP3 became available, I was advised to down load it as well. Since that time, I have received literally dozens multiple downloads after the first download, without prompts. My modest hard drive is at capacity and I am staying above water by moving everything I can off of it. I ran Belarus and the analysis found all my updates successful through, believe it or not, something referred to as SP4. I deleted all the recent updates and reinstalled them. Sp3 is "quiet" now but I still have a new SP3 Update Ready indicator in my task bar each time I boot up. There is nothing, so far, I can do to delete it.

I'd like to find the redundant downloads and delete them to regain my
hard-drive space and terminate the notorious update indicator.

To avoid confusion, it's always best to begin a new thread about your
issues/questions.

Assuming you do NOT plan on installing WinXP SP3 via Automatic or Windows
Update (in which case you'd have to download the installer yet again):

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the Download folder and delete its contents
Close the window.

3. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

1. Effective April 2010, you will have to have SP3 installed in order to be
able to get any more security updates.
