mapping network drive on new Vista Ultimate PC

There seems to be a lot of us with similar problems...here's what I have:
1. existing 4 pc's running either XP PRO or XP Home, all connected either
via wireless (to Qwest ActionTec DSL modem) or wired LAN through Netgear
swtich.
2. Intel SS4000 NAS box, wired through Netgear switch
3. all 4 existing pc's easily connected to the Intel box when first
instlaled a bout 2 months ago
5. existing PC's using Zone Alarm firewall
6. adding new PC today with Vista Ultimate 64, and running AVG firewall
7. bottom line, the new pc can see all the other pc's, but not the Intel box
8. and the other existing pc's can see the new pc

Thoughts?

normally, there's no problem, but is the Intel box installed on the Vista PC
like on the XPs?

Can you access it directly via IP address or name?

\\192.168.1.xxx
or
\\NAS_STORAGE

for example

There was no "installation" that was done on the existing pc's...all I did
for all of those was to tell them to map a network drive, they saw the Intel
box, and away it went. That's why this is so weird...

Here's what I can see:

1. If I do a ping -a the NAS box shows up with the name and IP I expected
2. the NAS box also appears in the Vista netowrk box as a connected device,
but that seems to be for accessing the adminsitration of the device only, not
it's use

Maybe I'm thrown off by the new map drive box that Vista has?

That is, if the IP of the NAS box is 192.168.0.9 and the name is
Home-Storage, how should I complete the input line for "Folder"? Shouldn't
just be "\\192.168.0.9" ?

You should also need to append the name of the shared volume, as in:
\\192.168.0.9\Disk1

Pay attention to any spaces in the share name

Val - THANK YOU!

After your last post I realized 2 things...

Because I had set up access to the original pc's all at the same time
acouplef of months ago, I had forgotten that I needed to authorize them
within the NAS system first. So, I had to creat access for the new pc.

Then, when using the name of the NAS system when mapping the drive, I also
forgot that it wants it in all caps...(I could have also used the IP address)

So, once I did both above, all went fine.
