Maximum Memory for Vista?

What is the maximum memory that Vista will recognize? I am working on video
and am thinking of switching to PC. Need a lot of RAM.

The 32-bit version of Windows Vista will recognize
4GB of RAM and the 64-bit version 8GB, providing
Service Pack 1 is installed.

It'll SEE 4GB (after SP1) but it won't USE 4GB RAM - about a max of 3.5,
maybe less

32 bit will SEE 4Gb max, but will only USE max of 3.5 GB. 64 bit will use
much more...

According to this, Vista Basic x64 is limited to 8GB, Home Premium
16GB, and the higher tier ones 128GB.

Higher-end consumer-grade motherboards typically max at 8GB, however.

can purchase, at a reasonable price, that can
even accommodate 128GB of installed RAM?
Or even 16GB RAM?

That wasn't the question. The question was how much RAM does Vista
support, not how much RAM does "consumer computer one
can purchase, at a reasonable price" support.
