MC Word Document(.docx)

When I send doc to nonVista users they can not open. How can I change the
save format to something they can open with?

You are using Word 2007 - to send to those still using Word 97 - 2003 use
the "Save as" Word 2007 option to save document in 97 - 2003 format.

printers are available to print any document to a PDF file.

That anyone can open regardless of software installed or operating system
used.

No, it has nothing to do with Vista users vs. non-Vista users. It has
to do with the version of Word you are using vs. the one they are
using.

You are apparently using Word 2007, and that version, by default,
saves in the new .docx format, rather than the old .doc format.

You can optionally change to the .doc format by doing a "Save as"
instead of "Save" and choosing .doc or "Save as Word 07-2003
document."

Alternatively, the people you send your files to might want to add the
ability to open .docx files to their earlier version. Send them to
this page: "Open a Word 2007 document in an earlier version of Word"
at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...444731033.aspx

That's an acceptable solution, but only if the recipient will have no
need to modify the file. A similar solution, but one that retains
modifiability is to use the rtf format.

Well generally, I think it's relatively safe enough to assume that if the
recipient needs to modify the file that they will be using the same
Software and hence the issue doesn't exist in the first place.

Sending out files that others need to modify without knowing if they are
even capable of modifying the files is just extremely poor practice in my
opinion.

Then again...I suppose plenty of people do it...

Out of curiosity, how compatible is that though? I mean assuming that MS
actually did add more than just a new UI and file format (at least I'd
hope there'd be some other new features), how are older versions of word
going to be able to deal with said saved features since they don't
implement them?

I can't answer that for sure. I have no experience using it, but on
the other hand, I have heard no reports of problems with it.

Saving in Rich Text Format (RTF) works for m
and my non-Vista contacts
It seems to be a sort-of Word universal format

No, it is a standard 'universal format' nothing to do with Word in
particular. RTF is a very good solution as nearly everyone can read it.
PDF would be another good solution, particularly for files you don't want
folks to edit (can be done, but it's a little more challenging).
