No, it has nothing to do with Vista users vs. non-Vista users. It has
to do with the version of Word you are using vs. the one they are
using.
You are apparently using Word 2007, and that version, by default,
saves in the new .docx format, rather than the old .doc format.
You can optionally change to the .doc format by doing a "Save as"
instead of "Save" and choosing .doc or "Save as Word 07-2003
document."
Alternatively, the people you send your files to might want to add the
ability to open .docx files to their earlier version. Send them to
this page: "Open a Word 2007 document in an earlier version of Word"
