ME to XP upgrade - how?

I can't see how to upgrade my laptop to XP from ME. The Microsoft site says
ME users are eligible for a free upgrade to XP, but all the Windows Update
pages offer XP SP2 upgrade for existing XP users. I'm not on XP yet, even
though some Microsoft pages seem to say I am. The upgrade via CD option
requires XP to start with so that's no good.

Anyone know how I go about doing my free upgrade???

Thanks

And which site would that be?

No free upgrade to XP for Me users or anyone else. You have to pay for it.

Yes I just worked out Microsoft lovely use of English language on their site.
"ME users are Eligible for an upgrade" - woopdedoo.
Oh no wait, that only means we're Eligible to spend more money with MS.
Sadly, I don't have the £90 I need

I'll stick with ME for now then and investiagte GNUs instead. Sorry to waste
your time. Thanks though.

Since you have WinME, this means you can purchase and install the
Upgrade Version of WinXP. This Upgrade Version is about half the cost of
the Full Version of WinXP.

For example, if you were still using Win95 you wouldn't be eligible for
the Upgrade Version. You would have to purchase the Full Version of WinXP.

I had Me bundled with the PC - unstable and wouldn't work with new cards for
more sockets. An upgrade to XP was overdue and, bar network connection
problems, has been essential. £90 is the PCWorld price, try an independent
shop - possibly cheaper.

But is a Me-XP upgrade as good as a clean XP install?
