media center failed to record - 'There was an unexpected failure 774 error'

Vista Home premium.

Up until recently I had no problems recording tv programmes using media center in Vista home premium. However the other day I decided to clean out my recorded tv folder to free up space on my pc and now if I schedule a recording manually, use the epg or click on record when watching live tv I get the media center failed to record 774 error. I seem remember seeing a log file or something similar in the recorded tv folder at some point which doesn't appear to be there now. I think I may have deleted it when clearing out the folder. All that is there now is the Temprec folder. Please could someone advise me as to how to fix this and if it is indeed due to deleting a file required from the Recorded tv folder. Thanks.
