I have a system with media center 2005 w/roll up 2 on it, 2.7GHz & 512MB it
was working ok. Then it stoped doing auto updates. I went to windows update
site it shows that there are 92 High Priority, 11 Software & 4 Hardware
updates ready for install. But when I tell it to up date it starts to
download then all the updates fail to update. There is no error code. Does
anyone have any ideas.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144
(Try it even if you did a clean, not repair, installation.)
(Try it even if you performed some sort of restore - not repair install.)

The issue can occur if the updates KB904706 or KB912812, which are related to
the update KB900325, have not been installed correctly. In order to confirm
this point and resolve the issue, let's first refer to the following steps to
remove the updates KB904706 and KB912812, and then install the update
KB900325. If the update KB900325 can be installed successfully, then we can
reinstall the updates KB904706 and KB912812.

For your convenience, I have outlined the detailed steps below:

Step 1: Remove the update KB904706 and KB912812
=======================================
1. Click "Start", "Run", type in "appwiz.cpl" and press "OK".

Note: Be sure to have "Show updates" checked (if Service Pack 2 for XP is
installed).

2. Look for updates KB904706 and KB912812.
3. Please highlight and remove them one by one.
4. Restart Windows as required.

Step 2: Install the update KB900325
=============================
Please download the update from the following link and save the installation
patch on the Desktop:

Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB900325)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Please go to the Desktop and double click on the downloaded file to install
it. If it is installed successfully, please proceed to step 3 to reinstall
the updates KB904706 and KB912812.

Step 3: Reinstall the Security Update KB904706 and KB912812
===============================================
Please download and install the updates from the following links

Security Update for Windows XP (KB904706)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Note: If you have installed Internet Explorer 7.0, we can skip the following
updates which are for Internet Explorer 6. If not, please select the proper
update based on your system version, Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or
Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB912812
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2
(KB912812
