Media Center, Video error

I've just installed Windows XP Home edition, purely for the Media Center so I
can hook it up to my Xbox.

However, when I open Media Center, it says "Video driver is not compatible"
and when I try and play a video, it says "Files needed to play video are nt
installed or not working correctly."

I have tried to download an update for my driver, but the windows website
only appears to have updates for photo-related incidents. I checked the Intel
website and found a nightmare of navigation. I'm not computer savvy enough to
understand what it is I need to do..

Can anyone please help me?

DeadDancers,

Right click My Computer either on the Desktop or Start Menu and choose
Manage.
Click on Device Manager in the left frame
Click the plus sign next to Display Adapter in the right frame
The video adapter type will be listed
Post back with the name of the video adapter

There is nothing marked as "Display Adapter" or anything similar in this list.

Further experimentation since first posting this message has shown that the
sound also appears to have been affected. I don't know if this helps at all.

Are there any devices listed with a yellow question mark next to them ?
Try this ... go to Start, Run, type in

msinfo32

Click OK
Click the plus sign next to Components in the left frame
Click on Display in the left frame
The display adapter should be listed in the right frame now

It appears that the display adapter is onboard the motherboard. Until we
can identify it, there's no way we can find if there's an updated driver
for it.

While you're viewing System Information, click on Sound Device in the
left frame, too. What's listed in the right frame ?

Who is the PC's manufacturer and what is the model number ?

Thanks for your efforts. I appreciate it.

The guy who sold me the machine dropped by, and apparently the drivers I was
looking for wouldn't have been any help, as he'd gutted the machine and put
it together using pieces other than what the label said.

Or something to that effect. He was kind enough to fix it for me, though.
All is good.

Thanks again.

You're welcome and glad to hear that it's working properly now.

Today i am so happy but sad at the same time. like many others, I have been
trying to get my videos to stream from my Windows Vista computer to my xbox
360. I found and tried every format of video there was, put it in the shared
folder, and tried it one after the other on my xbox. The only one i found to
work was ,of course, a windows made Windows Media Audio/Video file (WMV).
This was one file i encoded my self.

This is why im sad. To encode one AVI "Family guy" episode (aprox. 30min)...
it took about 1.5hrs (3x's the show time). But if thats what it take to get a
HD video to use for right now... thats what im going to do. untill Windows
makes it where we can use other formats ex.(AVI, Divix,Xvid, ect...) we will
have to use this i guess.

Soooo. For those of you who want to do what i did. Go to the windows
downloading site and download the 'Windows Media Encoder 9 Series'

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

I hope this might help some to use there videos for now

Your friend dave

p.s. if you find a way to use other formats without deleteing programs, tell
me please.
