Any help would be appreciated. "Windows media has encountered a problem and
will now close" occurs ONLY if I have a USB memory item attached. USB stick,
PDA etc. I cannot use windows media player unless I unplug these devices.
I am using Vista 64 home premium, and functionally everything else is perfect.

It's possibly a corrupt USB Root Hub driver. This can happen when upgrading
to SP1.
Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the USB Root Hub
device(s), Action menu, "Uninstall", (do Not put a check in 'delete driver")
then Action menu,"scan for hardware changes", to find the device drivers
again automatically.
