Media Player 11 Crashes on launch

For some reason, my Media Player just crashes now if I merely launch it.
Playing any sort of file is out of the question. All I have to do is click
the shortcut, it pops up, opening to the library section...then immediately
crashes. The error info is below:

If you installed any third party codecs, especially whole packages,
that can cause problems. One quick fix that sometimes helps is start
up Microsoft's Movie Maker. Under Tools, Options, click the Restore
defaults button. This should reset Movie Maker, Media Player and Photo
Gallery all at once telling them not to use any third party stuff. It
shouldn't effect how any third party applications themselves work.

Did you try installing the wmp11 reliability update?

Search for "Update for Windows Vista (KB941651)" on Microsoft's download
center.

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point when it never happened?
Also try running System file checker:

Start menu>right click cmd and click "run as Admin" and

Given that you aren't getting far ATM have you tried uninstalling the
updates starting with the WMP specific ones?
