Do to the infinite wisdom at Microsoft they made media player part of
the OS instead of it own program.

Is there a way to fix media player without an OS reinstall, I have
tried downloading media player from Microsoft but every time I go to
install it it tells me I have a newer version and halts the install.

Reason I ask is Im having a codec problem with certain programs and it
seems a reinstall of media player could resolve this..

What codec problem with what programs? The player is probably installed
fine here, so it'd be good to know what the actual problem in question is.
