Media player craziness - updates sent out with bugs?

Twice lately while watching a DVD my vista laptop (fully hardware and
software capable) has gone a bit weird, freezing up the first time and
the second time Firefox started up even though I have no settings to
prompt this as far as I know and my USB dongle modem was not plugged
in. I was wondering if some Windows Updates have been sent lately
that have been found to be buggy or something. If not if anyone has
any idea what might be wrong, I'd be grateful to know. I did consider
that my computer might be looking for information on the DVD like when
you try and rip a CD, but this happened 70 minutes into the film.
(When I used Task Manager to try and stop Firefox, there were about 10
and then about 30 instances of Firefox open. Weird enough anyway, as
Internet Explorer is my default browser.) Currently doing a scan to
make sure there's nothing viral afoot but no recent scans have shown
anything to worry about.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but there were no issues with the last Windows Updates
that could cause your unique issues. Try scanning for the presence
of malware. Make sure your video adapter drivers are the latest
ones available from your laptop manufacturer's support web site.
