Media Player in Windows 7 wont play ripped cd's

I have rippped or copied music from cd's i have bought so that i can create
playlists etc and listen to music on my new pc but it wont play them, it
comes up with error msg and then a link to a microsoft website to intall a
license and that also produces an error msg so i cannot find any solution to
this
