Vista Ultimate version recently for the last 3 weeks or so keeps
losing internet connection. When this happens it is unable to get the
new schedules for tv programming. The only way to get it back is to
reboot the machine. Anyone ver hear of this???

Have you tried a system restore? How are you connected to the Internet? Can you
check event viewer and post the error messages relating to loss of connection?

If you are connected to the internet with a dialup connection, do you
have noise on your phone line?

If using a dialup connection, you can lose the internet connection due
to noise on the telephone line.

If that is your connection, then you should call your telephone company
and complain about noise on your telephone. (do not talk about your
internet connection, the phone company does not care about dial up
internet).

If you a connected with a broadband connection of some kind, the problem
could be just about anywhere in the connection chain.

Oh yes I am on high speed cable for quite some time now. I think I may
have found the problem. Since it has been happening to all other PC's
on the network. I believe the router is dying. Does this happen? Well
it has been about 5 years with this router so this could be the
problem. It is happening to all other pc's that I have on the net
wired and wireless.

When it dies are you able to restore it by restarting the router?
Do you have latest firmware for your router?
Have you checkd the lights on the router and on the broadband modem to see
what appears to be working and what is not?
Have you tried resetting the brodband modem when the problem occurs?
Newer routers have better recovery logic so investing in a new 11.b/g/n
router with a USB port for a network printer is probably worth while anyway?

Yes, routers can develop hardware issues. But if it is 5 years old, it probably
makes sense to replace it with a newer "N" router that is on the official
compatibility list for Windows 7 (which would include being compatible with
Vista, etc.)

If the router has logs, you may be able to log in and see what it is reporting
for problems (or not).
