Menu hesitating

I have a dell precision 6300 laptop with 4 gig of ram. I am running vista
ultimate with trend micro anti virus. In the past week my computer seems to
hesitate a lot when I click on different menu Items. for example, I may
click on the print menu and it may be 5 or 10 seconds before the menu pops
up. Its almost like something is running and tying up the processor. What
could be causing this and how can I find out what it is and how to fix it?
