That's the basic windows menu, I'm not aware of any way that it can be
removed.

The Redmond folks don't want you changing Vista because, as far as they
are concerned, Vista is the best thing since sliced bread. If you're
interested in an operating system that allows you to take control, check
out Ubuntu at www.ubuntu.com Order the free Live CD which you can run
without installing to see if your hardware is compatible. It's free and
they will even pay for the postage to send it to you. It comes with
access to over 25,000 free programs and you can install it on as many
computers as you like.

Here's a little video to show you the difference between Vista with Aero
and Ubuntu with Beryl:

However remember that just because a computer can run a Ubuntu live CD does
not mean Ubuntu can be installed on that PC.
In my case my vaio pcg fx101 will quite happily run the live CD but Ubuntu
will not install on it.
The installer on the live CD hangs and the alternative install disk (which
is not a live CD) also fails to install the boot loader.

I have previously run Suse Linux on the same PC BTW so it is a Ubuntu
problem.

Also when you get to the disk partitioner be extra careful with what you
choose or you will delete all of your windows, programs and data and when
Ubuntu pops up the warning screen it is identical whether it is going to
delete your windows or if it is not going to.

This from someone that lies, insults and blusters in every post and has
openly admitted he's too stoopid to install Ubuntu.

Ubuntu isn't really meant to be installed on ten year old machines. Can
you install Vista on that machine?

Not long ago you were recommending Ubuntu to run on old machines.

> Can you install Vista on that machine?

I have no idea.
It would probably want more RAM.
IIRC M$ say 512M is the minimum.
On the other hand Ubuntu is supposed to work in 256M.
