Message rules don't work

Using Windows7 Sp1 IE8

When I add a name to Message Rules to delete and "Apply Now" it doesn't
delete.
I have entered more than one name to some but whether or not there is one or
more it doesn't delete any of them.

I'm sure I have it set up correctly -
Where the message is on specified newsgroup
Where the From line contains people
Delete it

Windows Live Mail is a severely crippled news client. It doesn't surprise me
that the rules don't work; just about the only thing that does is posting
and retrieving.

It works very well for me. When setting a rule, you have to shut down WLM.

The next time you open it, then the rule is applied.

Can't duplicate.

After reading your post, I clicked on the Folders tab then Message Rules
- created a rule to delete a post
Where the From line contains the name shown in from field and the action to
delete
Once the rule was created...
Messages Rules
> Apply now
> Select the rule
> Select the group (use the Browse button)
> Apply Now

Post was deleted.

It was not necessary to close WLM to make the rule function.

No, it doesn't. It can't even quote properly. How do you expect it to
handle something as advanced as filtering?

Quoting is not a function of message rules or vice versa.
Thus the answer to your question is simple. Setup your rules properly.

Please provide the exact details of your rule and all the steps used to
create and apply the rule.
If you have a Hotmail account or other similar that provides a feature like
SkyDrive, upload pictures showing those steps and provide a link for others
to view them.

It works here, I've deleted posts from users (old posts/users and current
posts/users) on this group.
- try it on the same garbage/out of context/off topic posts in this group
(Evan Platt, T C, Tony Lance) that I did a few minutes ago. All three are
gone using the same method I provided earlier.

Here's the rule contents
Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains 'barrowhill' or 'Even Platt' or 'T C' or 'Tony
Lance'
Delete it

- Note: Do not enter the leading/trailing apostrophe when adding a 'From'
name. When using the Apply Now option ensure you select the rule and use
the browse option to select the correct newsgroup, then click Apply Now to
execute the rule.

Hi, Ray.

One thing you haven't clarified is WHERE you are asking WLM to "Apply
now..." your Rules. The Default is to apply them to "Storage Folders". You
want them to be applied to your INBOX - which is NOT the Default.

That has always seemed a poor choice of default, to me. "Storage Folders"
holds messages that I have ALREADY sorted and moved to specific folders -
either "manually" or by using previously-created message rules.

But when I've just created a new rule, I almost always want to apply it to
the UNsorted messages that are still in my Inbox. So I have to click Browse
and find the Inbox for one of my several Mail Accounts. (It is unclear - to
me, at least - whether the Rule(s) will now be Applied to just that one
Inbox or to all of them.)

The point is that, if you accept the default in "Apply to Folder", WLM will
delete only messages that have already been moved from your Inbox to a
Storage Folder; it will not touch those still in any Inbox.

Nowhere did I say it was.

That's not an answer to my question. My question was "How do you
expect it to handle something as advanced as filtering?"

I have no issue with rules.
