My HP-Notebook( with W7 64-bit) all of a sudden (probably after
executing one of the "cleaners") stopped given a sound with the
MessageBeep() API. Also modal screens (e.g. messageboxes in Word) usually
give a sound when you click oiutside of the box. But not on my computer
anymore.
All other sounds are fine, e.g. log on/off, Media Player, etc.
I tried a lot of things (driver, sound configurations, etc.) w/o success.
On my wife's identical machine it works flawless.
Any idea, where to check or compare?

Hi,
Try system restore to a moment before the alleged "cleanup".
That should bring things back to normal.

Yet further proof, if either of us needed it, about the value of registry
cleaners...
