Messages in WLM Outbox get stuck

I know various people have reported different symptoms of this problem. I
hope someone at Microsoft is paying attention. I have build 12.0.1365 of
Window Live Mail Beta.

I sent a fairly important message last night and continued to do some work
on my computer. Then I put the computer to sleep. When I came back in the
morning the message was still stuck in my Outbox. I clicked on send and
receive messages but WLM kept getting stuck at "sending 1 message from MSN."
I have a broadband connection with no connection problems.

Eventually after clicking send and receive multiple times the message did
get sent but I now see two copies of the message in my "Sent Items" folder.
Something is buggy about the sending of messages and to me this is a
showstopper. I cannot use this product till I am confident it will send my
messages out.

Which antivirus are you using?

Just a carryover of symptoms that I am used to dealing with in OE.
In my case if either OE or WLM can't see my PPPoE link and is using
the Local Area Network Connection (e.g. as seen in the Status window)
then a send from a composition window hardly ever goes through.
In fact, you can see in the Status bar if the send was even tried.
If it wasn't I just use Alt-T,S,S and make sure that it does get tried.
Usually that is enough to get it done.

The double send thing can occur when editing the Outbox.
It is especially problematic if you use the automatic send/receive option
since then unless you set Work Offline while editing an Outbox message
there is always the chance that the time for the automatic send will occur
while a message is open in its own window. Consequently the copy in the
Outbox may be sent and then when you use the Send (or even Send Later)
command another copy will be added to the Outbox.

Similarly if there is a race condition between the request to send and the deletion
of the original at the closing of the composition window then there can conceivably
be two copies created (e.g. instead of deleted when sent) in which case the user
may have to do further checking using the Sent Items folder to determine if the
remaining copy should be retried or deleted.

Both possibilities are best managed by being aware of them and always resending
to the Outbox while in a Working Offline state. Then the Alt-T,S,S re-send can
be done after feeling assured that only one copy of the message can be involved.

It shouldn't even be a multiple link case. I'm just connected directly in my
home network to the internet. There is no VPN or anything else involved to
confuse it. I was not offline either.

Norton Antivirus is probably the most intrusive of all the antivirus programs
as far as interfering with the functions of an email program.
As a minimum, its email scanning should be disabled.
If your email problems continue, I'd uninstall NAV and replace it with a more
compatible antivirus like the free version of Avast:

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
