messed up media

for some unknown reason, all of my media players are having trouble playing
videos. i cant watch movie clips or dvd's. i can hear sound, but sometimes i
get a black screen, or a very highly zoomed in zone of what ever it might be.
can you help?

well first you need to specify if you have downloaded any updates,
etc..something that may have changed the way your system used to work..
As a preliminary measure I would go to "system restore" to set things back
to their original working order.
