Messenger 2009 will not sign in, and then I have no internet

I have downloaded Windows live messenger 2009. I have not been able to sign
in. The little men spin around for about 5 minutes and then at the bottom
right my blue guy has a red X and when I click on the messenger program it is
not responding. Also after this has happened I have no internet connection. I
have to either uninstall messenger or restart my computer to gain access to
my internet again.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the 2009 version of messenger but
this still does not fix the problem. I have checked the time and date on my
computer and they are correct. I have deleted the messenger contacts cache
folders. I have tried to locate the "policies" folder in the msn messenger
reg key files...but i dont have that folder (this information was listed as a
way to solve the problem on a different forum)
I have deleted all forms of windows messenger, windows live messenger, msn
messenger, windows live plus and anything else I found that was listed as
windows live messenger or msn messenger. And then re-installed Live messenger
209 and it still will not sign me in.

Please help!!!!!! I really enjoy chatting with family and friends on
messenger but now I am not able to do so.

If possible can you email me your responses as im not sure I will be able to
find this forum again...it took me 3 hours to try and find a way to contact
microsoft through an email and I was UNSUCCESSFUL!!

Also I think I should mention I am running Windows xp and have cogego anti
virus, my firewall is set to allow windows live messenger. I can't think of
anything else that might help diagnose the problem but if you need more
information I can post it.
