Messenger 8.0.0812.00 - Massive Memory Problem

Hi

I have installed Messenger and its causing massive memory leaking problems.

If I start it up it is fine and sits in memory about 16Mb Main and 9Mb VM,
if I then login the VM size jumps to over 1GB!! Causing the machine to go
crazy.

I have done an add/remove of Messenger, restarted and reinstalled, but the
problem still persists

Anybody else had this problem and/or has any idea how to debug and fix it?

Thanks

Only 1Gb? And you are complaining? In beta testing it had 2 Gb + VM
leak....LOL

After beta testing the reduced the leak by 100%! And now its only 1 Gb!!!
I see this as a great improvment!!! You should be full of gratitude....
Its free anyway...you shouldnt complain!

Its Microsoft what do you expect? Lean and elegant software??? Lol

Wait until you try out Vista.. the whole thing is a big leak!

Oh I see people like hurds moving off to MacOSX..... it already has
begun....

Greetings CP,

Are you running any third-party software that interfaces with OE like JAM? or any other
anti-spyware, anti-spam, etc. software?

its always a 3rd party driver or application huh?
Same excuse whenever XP has a problem... lol
Sounds like Microsoft help desk support to me!

How about the truth? That live messenger is a very dirty application....

But I stick with it because it has some cool featues.. I have about 100 gb
free on
my drive.. let it eat!

Hi Jonathan

I have the usual Windows Defender and AVG Free Edition. I thought it might
be some tie-in to MSN so I have made sure that Outlook isnt linked on the
contacts.

Seemed to occur around the time I installed IE7-RC1 if thats any help, but I
have tried disabling the MSN plugins in IE to no affect.

All very strange, is there any kind of "safe mode" that MSN can run that
might help to diagnose the issue?

Thanks for your help

PS John Jay Smith, are you a child, dont you have more to do with your
life??

Hi CP,

No, there's no safe mode. I'm afraid I don't have a real explanation for the cause of this
leak.

What you might be interested in doing is downgrading back to the previous build, which
doesn't seem to have this behavior:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...9-0cbb2fece05f

You'll need to uninstall the current version first from Add or Remove Programs (don't worry,
it won't remove your settings).
