I recently upgraded my father's PC and it came with Vista. I also configured
it for Windows Live Messenger 8.1, but when we try run a Video Conference,
the audio on his end is garbled. I hear and see hi fine on my XP system.
Now, if we manually connect via audio first, then activate each video in
sequence, the audio is perfect, but we lose control for full screen. It
seems that when we connect via the one step video conferencing, he even loses
control of the speaker and microphone volume controls adjacent to the video
picture, but has control when we connect separately. When I connect to
another XP system via video conference, there is no problem. Any ideas on
what we can do, or is this a Vista concern?

I connect with a friend but we get so much static that we can't hear the
audio. How do I get rid of the static. We are both using live cam vx6000.
I have vista and he has xp.

Please try the 8.5 Beta on http://ideas.live.com and see if that helps you.

I've already installed it but have not had a chance to try it. Will report
the results when I've used it in a real connection.

Gave it a try both with video call and audio call and still get a lot of
static and other noises. Also, with 8.5 the voices are breaking up and not
enough volume to hear what anybody is saying so this is worse than 8.1. We
are both on broadband and I've used different types of speakers etc with no
real change. At this point we are both invested into vx6000 webcams and
can't make use of them for audio or vedeo calls. Video does well with out
the audio, no problem there. Audio is poor with out using video.

Aleks,

My father and I have just tried the Beta version and initially we got the
same audio problem has we had with 8.1, so I went into the McAfee virus
protection and disabled the Firewall, Spyware, Virus Protection, SystemGurad
and Script Scanning (basically all of the McAfee stuff) on my system, the XP
system, and we tried again. Without McAfee activated, we had a great video
and audio conversation. Just for the fun of it, we went back to 8.1 without
McAfee and too had good aduio and video. We are going to continue to use the
Beat version. My Father is using Norton and am glad I did not have to walk
him through turning off Norton on his system.

John, you too may want to temporarily disable your Security systems, whom
ever you use, and give it a try. Just make sure you reactivate before
browsing the net.

John, please let me know how you make out and if what I did was the solution
or just dumb luck. If it does the trick, I would like to know what virus
protection you are using. I am just about fed up with McAfee.

Both of us were using norton antivirus and it still does not work without all
the noise even if we turn them off. Neither of us have a software firewall
running but I am behind a linksys router.
