Messenger 8 (beta/live) issues...

Hello everyone

I need to address some issues on the new Messenger 8 (still Beta) and maybe
those will be resolved before the official release.
1) Since I install the new messenger my hotmail account doesn’t login
correctly using the Microsoft outlook express. To elaborate: I have my
hotmail account in the account list of the outlook express. As in all my
accounts, the password is saved to realize the email download without user
intervention. But since I put the new messenger I need to always confirm the
password to synchronize. It’s a little bit annoying and I already report this
issue to Microsoft using the “Microsoft beta client” (so far without any
response). And I have sure this is a messenger issue, because my other
computer (same hardware/software but using the old 7.5 version) this doesn’t
occurs.
2) A new feature of the messenger 8 beta is you can send and receive
messages on the “appear invisible” status. You can, also, send messages to be
delivered when the user goes online. But this feature is almost useless
since:
*when you send a message to be delivered later, the message doesn’t arrive
(when the user goes online);
*when you send a message to an online user he receives, but have an error
message when try to reply (“the message could not be delivered to all
users”). This is not a DNS issue or a connection problem, because when you
change your status to other than the “appear offline” the send/receive start
to work.
3) In the new version you can’t send files. You drag the file to the chat
window and, after the cursor change you release it, as in previous versions.
The problem is nothing happens and doesn’t matter your status (online,
occupied, away, appear offline).
4) This new version doesn’t show the display image on the main program
window (only on the chat window). This makes hard recognize the online
contacts.
Beside this four issues, the new messenger have a good new interface, is
useful, stable and even more easy to use. New features such as “search for
contacts” just typing the first letters of the name or email passport is
great.
Also the new “shared folders”, the rename contacts names feature and the
access to the hotmail address book in the main program window.

Hope you all stay well and let’s see what’s can be done to the issues,

Forget to tell another issue: the “auto login” doesn’t work.
Believe that’s all for now.

The first issue (1) can be resolved using this patch

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...n&Hash=FWL9NCD

"Update for Windows XP (KB904942)
Install this update to resolve HTTP authentication issues in Windows-based
systems that do not appear until Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is installed."

Let's see about the others.

Greetings,

1) You've solved.
2) The message should arrive, and typically does as long as the OIM service is functional
(which you can find out rather quickly if the "cannot deliver message" appears). It was down
a bit last week but it should be fine for the time being.
3) Beginning with MSN Messenger 6, you have to drag into the text entry window (the actual
part where you type) or it won't send them as it considers you trying to change the
background; this version continues that tradition.
4) If you click the button to the right of the word wheel (the 'find a contact' text field)
and click 'Show Details', you'll get the display pictures on the contact list. What exactly
this button looks like has been changed in each build, so you'll have to be clear what
version you're using if you can't find it.

Hello Jonathan,

Nicely done.
Thanks in advance for the support, but if you could answer my new
considerations I will appreciate.
The offline issue I’m sure it’s temporary (still a beta function).
About the drag and drop issue despite the fact I already know how it works
(from the previous versions) I try one more time. Once I drop the file in the
“text box” nothing happened (no sending file dialog).
And the auto-login function can you say me something?

Tks once again,

Hi Jonathan, I've clicked the button and the display pictures appear but
they take up too much space compared with MSN Messenger so the number of
contacts shown without scrolling down the window is diminished. Is there a
way to reduce the size of the display image?

Greetings,

I'm afraid not. Unlike MSN Messenger 7.5, there is no way to show the display pictures in
the smaller format.

Thank you Jonathan, do you think the following will change?
When you added a contact to MSN Messenger 7.5 using an e-mail address, if
the contact hadn't signed up to MSN Messenger with that address, a warning
message popped up with the option of e-mailing that potential contact with
instructions on how to install MSN Messenger. Now this kind of check doesn't
occur anymore. You can add all kind of rubbish as long as it as an @ and a
dot and it appears in your "Other Contacts" group.

Hi,

I'm not aware of any moves to restore this functionality and yes, that's by design now too.
