I have never used Messenger. Is the sign in for Messenger the same as my sign
in for Hotmail? If I'm signed into Messenger how do I know what my sign-in
name is?

Hi Roger,

Yep it's the same.

The quickest way to determine your address currently signed in is to just to open up the main
Messenger window by double-clicking on its icon in the notification area (by the clock) and
then clicking your display picture. The address will be shown there.

Thanks Jonathan, but when I click the picture it just shows my first name,
not my sign-in or email address. The reason I ask is that a friend of mine
has been using Messenger for some time but has never used email. Her computer
automatically signs her in to Messenger but we need to find out her email
address so I can show her how to use email.
Any suggestions?

Hi Roger,

Unfortunately a lot of this is dependent on what version you're using.

If you want something that will work regardless, have her change her display name to nothing
(go to Options, hit backspace to the display name and click OK) and the e-mail address will
show up as the name.

Jonathan,
I tried to change the display name but the field is greyed out.
Unfortunately she set this up some time ago but didn't note the sign in name
as she always used auto log in. Also the email address she entered in the
display name field, , is just something she made up. The
version is 7.5 I think.
Any suggestions?

Jonathan,
Are you there. I still can't work out where the sign in name is.
