Hello since yesterday my wlm has stopped loading. i uninstalled, reinstalled
and even tried 8.5 beta (worked only once after the installation). still the
same problem. when i click on live messenger from start menu it only shows
the rotating cursor for a few seconds then nothin. messenger does show on
task manager but its idle and below 12mb in size and if i start the app again
same thing happens and just adds another instance but lesser in size in the
task manager. i am using xp media centre edition with all the current updates
installed. please help me sort this out since i really dont wanna format my
hd. thanks

PS: i tried it even after disabling my firewall.

Greetings,

This can usually be related to a router on your network. If you have a router on your
network, reset it, restart Windows and see if that solves the problem.

its ok mate thanks for the reply. After hours of research & trial and error
I figured out it was due to some corrupt bluetooth webcam driver that wlm
keeps on continuously trying to load while starting, and failing to load it
just freezes and does nothing. So i deleted the driver and started wlm, walla
its all back to normal. wlm should make a safemode startup version or
something so ppl can load it and make any changes in audio video settings or
it should load the required drivers dll's and etc after the user enters the
username and password and presses sign-in. That way the users can make any
changes to settings before signing in if necessary. hmmm maybe i should get a
mvp too, lol

Hi,

Ah, yes. Messenger enumerates the audio/video devices in the system before it starts.

Safe mode might not be a bad idea, Outlook, Media Player and other Microsoft apps do.

I don't control MVP awards I'm afraid
