Messenger freeze-up on Vista

Hello everyone,

About a week ago I purchased myself a new modern PC, and the operating system for it is Vista. At first the Live Messenger-program on it ran well, but today it has started freezing completely when I open it. I tried a trick to unselect the option not to run Live Messenger on start up, but it doesn't appear to work. I really haven't used Vista before that much, so I'm really not that sure on how to go about this.

Would anyone kindly know anything about this problem? As of now my Live Messenger doesn't work, and I've even tried to shut down several programs while they've been running in order to make Messenger work again.

Could it be something that I recently installed?

All answers are much obliged.
