Messenger freezes with Video Call

Windows live messenger 2009 freezes when i try to start a video call it
didnt use to before but for some reason now i does and i have even tried
repairing. Can anyone help?

Just for clarification, "before" when exactly? Before you installed 2009, or did this just
start happening sometime later?

Also, it would be helpful to know your webcam manufacturer and model, and which Windows
version you're using. You're certainly not the only one experiencing such issues.

Finally, as a workaround for now, you can make use of the 'Webcam' function instead. To do
so, click the webcam icon in the conversation window (by the display pictures), then click
Show my webcam (on yours) and View my contacts' webcam (on your contacts). Then if you need
Audio, choose the Call button after that. It'll look and work similarly, except you won't
have full screen capabilities.

both. before i got 2009 and awhile after i got 2009. I have windows
vista home premium 32 bit service pack and a compaq laptop and i think
the webcam is by hp

This is easy to fix... In messenger, go to the audio-video setup. The
make sure in the video part that USB camera is the option and no
something like cyberlink video cam even though that is probably what yo
have. Makes no sense but it works like a charm

You should broadcast this globally. I was working with my wife's laptop and
cyberlink webcam. The cyberlink tutorial said to choose cyberlink as the
video option. I worked on this problem for about 3 hours (of course,
uninstalling, reinstalling, iGoogle, you name it). I followed you
recommendation to change the camera to USB, it worked. There are lots of
Google and Microsoft posts that still don't have an answer. You nailed it.
