messenger history button grayed out

all was working fine t'll i tried to install remote desktop, then messenger
went nuts. got most of it back to normal but the history is gone and it will
not let me check the save history box it is grayed out. and it does not save
any conversation history anymore. I am running xp sp2 all is updated. anyone
know ?.

Can you be a little more specific as to what you did? Remote Desktop is part of Windows and
there's nothing you need to install.

just installed it from the windows cd and tried to use it. when I tried to
login using remote desktop it would reboot the machine , thats when I notice
that live messenger was moving all the contacts around to other groups put
them back several times but they would still move when I rebooted the
machine. and the history files were gone and it would not keep any so I
uninstalled the remote desktop componet and it allowed me to get my contacts
back in order but it grayed out the save history featured and will not let
me save any conversation history
