I used to have MSN Messenger on our old pc. WHen it was installed, an icon
appeared on the toolbar at the top. I used to click on the "green man" and
Messenger would open up and connect.

Now on this new pc, I have downloaded Windows Live Messenger. THe green man
hasn't appeared on my top toolbar. What do I do to get this icon back on y
toolbar or doesn't this exist with Live Messenger?

I guess this is what you want:

Open up messenger >>> Under tht tool bar menu go to: Tools > Options

Then on the sidebar of the messenger options window, click General.

Now tick the check boxes "Automaically run Windows Live Messenger when I log
on to Windows" and when you do that you also you might want to untick "Open
Windows Live Messenger main window when Windows Live Messenger starts"

Recap:

Open up messenger >> Tools > Options > General > tick "Automaically run
Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows" untick "Open Windows Live
Messenger main window when Windows Live Messenger starts"

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, that is not what I meant. I followed
your instructions and now the "green man" appears in the task bar at the
bottom beside the clock etc.

There used to be a messenger icon button along the tool bar at the top of
the browser alongside the buttons for refresh, favourites, stop etc.

It is that button/icon I want to appear on the top toolbar.

Greetings,

I assume you mean in Internet Explorer. If you're using IE6, you can simply close your
Internet Explorer windows, then download and run this .reg file to add this:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow..._ietoolbar.reg

If you're using IE7, I'm still working on a solution.
