Messenger Live Sharing Folders Error

I have a problem with sharing folders for Live Messenger 8.5.1302.1018 on
WinXP Pro. When asked if I would like to start a sharing folder with a
contact, I accept and the error with the message "The sharing action could
not be completed due to an error" occurs. This is on the system admin account.

I can view my sharing folders, but they are not functional. Only files I
have placed in them are there, and the "Add Files" menu button is grayed out.

Is there any way to solve this so I can actually use the sharing folders?

Hello, did you try the help in Messenger? Help menu/help topics and then
search for "sharing folders" there's a topic "Troubleshoot Sharing
Folders" perhaps there's something there. It seems to be vital that your
system partition is NTFS (not FAT32).

Yes, I use NTFS file system. Yes I am online status when I try to share
folders. I can send and receive messages. Firewall allows Messenger.

I have restarted Messenger, uninstalled and re-installed it, and also
removed (deleted) the whole Sharing Folders Main Directory, all to no avail.

This would seem to be the extent of the solutions available on the web, yet
they don't seem to work for me.

If anyone has any other suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Try signing in with a totally new identity. I had the same problem
with my wifes puter. I signed her out and singed back in with a
friends name and password and file sharing started working fine. It
appears something got corrupted on the MS server to do with her name.
Hope this helps.

Greetings Ken,

The latest beta version of Windows Live Messenger no longer has the Sharing Folders feature
so perhaps they were using that.

Yeah but you have to install another program while before it was really cool
to get the shared folders inside the messenger Hope that the team will
think about that, it was a great feature.

On the other side, does anyone know how to synchronize the internet
favorites now that the functionality is not in the beta toolbar?
