Hi,

I have ver 7.0.816.0 of MSN Messenger. The dwintl.dll file located in \MSN
Messenger\1033 is ver 10.0.2625.0 - if this is relevant.
OS is W2KPro as a stand-alone system (not networked). My system drive C: is
has 66.6 of 127 GB free.

Things were working fine for months, until about 5 days ago..Now when I open
Messenger, then attempt to Sign In, my system immediately slows
dramatically, and I get a message similar to, "Messenger can't connect."

Everything else is fine: OE, my web browser, Hotmail, Word and other
programs located on my hd, etc. Until I use Messenger.

I've done both a pre-boot avast virus scan of all hard drives, plus an avast
scan with Windows running. Sygate Firewall has MSN Messenger listed as an
allowed program. A repair of Messenger hasn't helped.

Does anyone have help or suggestions, please?

Thanks,
Dugie

Thanks!
I've used only SpyBot S&D, it found no problems.
It's unusual that you still have problems with your webcam. Something's not right, and it may be Messenger.

I finally just discovered the cause: I had used Sygate's DLL control, and had disabled the connection of some required DLL.

Fixed it by using "Reset all fingerprints for all apps,"
and cleared the check box by Enable DLL authentication.
Now I know: DLL checking is too advanced for me.
