I'm getting the following message:

Messenger is not available right now. Please try again later. (0x80ee001c)

....when attempting a voice conversation with certain users. This is only
happening with some people, not everyone. Interestingly, when these users
try to opt-out of the Yahoo! interoperability program, they get an error
message on the opt-out web page. They can connect OK to WLM, but voice is
not working. Any ideas?

Dave,

What sort of NAT/router are you connected to? Do you have any special
settings on your NAT and/or do you run any software firewall?

That message means that your client had a problem trying to establish an SSL
connection to the voice servers.

You wouldn't happen to have experience running a network capture (like
ethereal) would you?

Hi guyes,

I have same problem here. I have phoned my interniet provider, and they
informed me that they have blocked this service, since they want to pay for
it.
Microsoft has offered this service for free, but the internet providers has
blocked.
I am using T-Mobile Broadband.

Any idea how we can resolve it?

Received Today From Fred Technical Services Microsoft Cheers Fred!

Hi Anthony,

Thank you for contacting Windows Live Messenger Technical Support. My name
is Fred, and I'll be glad to assist you with your concern.

I understand that you cannot use your Windows Live Messenger because you are
receiving an error 0x8ac70004 after upgrading it to Windows Live Essentials
2009. I know this is important to you so I will do my best to help you in
this matter.

I have reviewed your support request and it is possible that your Windows
Live Messenger contains corrupted registry files which cause this effect or
you have corrupted cache in your system which results in this erroneous
information.

What we need to do is to perform a clean installation to clear your
corrupted files, clean your registry and renew your cache files.

Note: clean install is different from just removing and installing because
in clean install we also clear the registry and all the files of Windows Live
Messenger.

Take note of the Windows Live Messenger version you are using. To know the
version of Messenger you are using: In the Messenger main window, go to Help,
then click About Messenger.

To perform a clean installation of Windows Live Messenger:

1. Remove Windows Live Messenger from the computer.

Note: This will remove all your Windows Live products since the Windows Live
Beta products in the Windows Live Installer are all integrated.

a. Click Start, Run, type appwiz.cpl and press enter.

b. Click on Windows Live Beta (all programs) then click Change/Remove

c. Select Install or Uninstall then click on Continue.

d. Under the selection "You installed these earlier", uncheck Windows Live
Messenger then click on Continue.

2. Remove the temporary files and folders from the computer:

a. Click Start, click Run, type cleanmgr , and then click OK.

b. If you are prompted, click C: in the Select the drive you want to clean
up list, and then click OK.

Notes:

-If you partitioned the hard disk, the CleanMgr utility prompts you to
select a drive.

-The Disk Cleanup utility displays how much disk space can be freed.

-This process can take several minutes.

c. On the Disk Cleanup tab, make sure that only the following options are
selected:

-Downloaded Program Files

-Temporary Internet Files

-Temporary files

-Temporary Offline Files

-Offline Files

d. Click OK two times.

3. Delete Windows Live Messenger related cache files.

a. The following commands delete files that are using when you sign in and
the Contacts Cache folders.

i. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\
and then press Enter. Delete the IdentityCRL folder.

ii. Click Start, click Run, type %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application
Data\Microsoft\ and then press Enter. Delete the IdentityCRL folder.

iii. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\ and then press Enter. Delete the Windows Live Contacts folder.

iv. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\ and then press Enter. Delete
the Contacts folder.

b. The following commands delete files related to sharing folders. Executing
this command may result in deleting the files your contacts shared with you
or that you shared with your contacts using the sharing Folders feature.
Please create a backup of these files, if desired, before executing the next
two commands.

i. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Messenger\ and then press Enter. Open your Windows Live ID
(E-mail address) then delete the Sharing Folders folder.

ii. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Messenger\ and then press Enter. Open your Windows Live ID
(E-mail address) then delete the SharingMetaData folder.

4. Delete Windows Live Messenger-associated registry keys.

Important: The following steps contain information about how to modifying
the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up, and
make sure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem
occurs. For information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry,
visit the following Web site:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986

Warning: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

a. Click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then press ENTER to open the
command window.

b. Type the following commands exactly as they appear below. Press ENTER
after typing each command to execute the command.

Note: In some case you may encounter the error that the key does not exist.
If you have typed the command correctly, this may be because the key has
already been removed earlier or does not exists on your machine.

REG DELETE "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenger' /f

REG DELETE HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger /f

REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Communications
Clients\Shared" /f
