Messenger status gets stuck at "Away" after idleness

I have noticed on several occasions that if I return to my PC after my
Messenger status has gone to "Away" automatically, it fails to come out of
this mode and I have to manually declare myself as "Available".

Previous versions of Messenger would automatically "wake up" on a mouse
movement or keyboard stroke.

Has this functionality been removed from the latest version of Messenger?
