Messenger version and issues...

I run Vista Ultimate and am a MSN subscriber running the latest version of
the MSN browser.

My question is this: When I look at the forum messages, it appears that most
folks are running version 7 or 8. When I look at mine I see that it is
"Windows Live Messenger 2008". I'm usually on autopilot when it comes to
updates so I don't know when I went from MSN Messenger to Live Messenger or,
for that matter, to the 2008 version.

Does anyone know if 2008 is the correct version of messenger for me?

Also...

Like a lot of other folks, I haven't been able to send a message to a mobile
device for a couple of weeks and am starting to doubt that there is anyone
in Microsoft even assigned to it any more. At least not that anyone would
know. At any rate, I'm gonna wait a few more days and if it still isn't
working I'm just gonna switch over to Yahoo messenger where SMS actually
works.

Thanks in advance,

Howard

Greetings Howard,

Well, the versions are 8.1, 8.5 and 9.0. There is no "2008" (yes, it got added to the
product name for some ridiculous reason but it's not a separate version).

But, you're running the correct version anyway.

The mobile problems are related to MSN Mobile and really aren't specific to any version I'm
afraid.

Thanks Jonathon. My version is 8.5. I'm not aware of having been offered
9.0. How do I get that?

Thanks in advance,

Howard

Hi Howard,

It's in private beta. Although it leaked to the web (which is why a percentage of people
have it and mention it on this group), it is intended for the private beta.
