Yesterday I had 3 new emails in my hotmail inbox and this was shown in the
messenger correctly. But for some reason after readin these 3 emails
messenger still shows in the gui that there are (3) emails in my inbox. This
started yesterday evening (Friday - GMT+1). Is this a known issue? How can I
fix this.

Greetings,

This feature is all done server side and even since Messenger's inception (which was as a
Hotmail notifier client), it's never been 100 percent reliable.

I have noticed that in the mac-client mail in your Junk folder are
reported in the client but not in the Windows version. If this is done
server side, does the mac-client connect to other servers or in some
other way?

Hi Oscar,

I have no idea on the Mac side how they're doing it. I don't own one so I can't check.

This has recently started happening to me too (since a week or so ago). The
mail count on my messenger doesn't reset to 0 after reading my messages.
Sometimes it will say 0 messages when I actually have new messages. And just
a few minutes ago it said I had 3 new messages, and there was only 1 when I
checked. This happens on any computer I'm on, so it isn't the
computer/messenger. As Jonathan said, it's done on the server side and has
never been 100 percent reliable, but I have never seen it this bad.

Is there currently a known issue with this right now (on Microsoft's side)?
Are many users having the same problems?

This began happening to me about a week ago. When I sign in to Live messenger
it gives the correct email count, but doesn't adjust this as I read emails
and doesn't notify me of new incoming messages (to my hotmail.com account). I
system restored, but to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

One evening, seemingly at random, it began working for a few hours, but
sadly this was short-lived. it seems a lot of people are experiencing this
sudden loss of service. There's a long frustrated thread at:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...47955&SiteID=1

Anyone know if there's a way to make Microsoft aware of the scale of this
problem? And if there's any prospect of a fix in the foreseeable future? It
is really frustrating!

Thanks for any help.

So did you get a reply to why this is happening? I wrote them about this also
and didn't get a fix it answer so I came here to find that others are having
the same problem. So looks like it's a Microsoft problem. Any suggestions on
how to fix? Thanks, Fran

Hi Fran,

This is all done on the server-side, so there's no magic fix forthcoming that you can do
yourself.

It will probably just fix itself, as it always does.
