Hi,

I really wish you could add a message to be said with the chat method. Like:
msnim:chat?contact=&message=Hello!

It seems that these protocols are not worked in Firefox and Opera. Is it a bug?

Hi Franklin,

I haven't tried it in Opera, but FireFox handles its own protocol handlers and ignores the
Windows ones.

I don't really consider it a bug, but more a suggestion. That or you might consider it a
suggestion for either FireFox or Opera to integrate with the protocol handlers in Windows as
opposed to just having their own.

Actually, WLM's protocol is unregistered in the Operating system. That's why
Firefox and Opera can handle it.

We do register this in the the install of WLM and its protocol Handlers. To
get firefox or Opera working you will need to have them read the proper
regstry entries

0 attachments included... But looking at the setup code on our end we do
register on the system at setup time. It works in word, excell, outlook, OE.

Hi,

Not to barge in, but it's not showing because attachments aren't in the web-based viewer (for
security reasons, naturally). It's just a screenshot from Vista at the Set Associations
dialog where it shows the various protocols and allow you to change them.

Personally, I'm glad it doesn't show up there since then the handler could be changed and
then wouldn't be consistent on all installations.

But, MSNIM is still registered as a Protocol Handler in the registry :
HKLM\Software\Classes\Protocols\Handler\msimn

I think handlers need to be registered elsewhere (like HKCR) to show in that Vista dialog.

It seems that FireFox will just check HKCU and HKCR for the handlers. So if you do
aim:goim?screenname=whomever, it goes through HKCR, finds the open command under the aim key
and sends "aim:goim?screenname=notarealuser" to the executable. MSNIM isn't there, so it
doesn't work.

Thanks jonathan. The screen shot you mentioned does not represent registered
protocol handlers. It just represents the ones which the OS surfaces via UI.

Registration in both hives is not what we do for messenger at all. But
thanks for the information about what Firefox honors for their commands.

Jonathan can you send me a e-mail directly with this information also so you
can get credit for the investigation. I will send you my address on via the
MVP channels.

Thanks
James.
