Mic problem

Good morning,

I have a strange problem.
On my and my sisters Gateway netbooks we have no sound
when we do a video IM call.
Video works fine we just get no sound from our side.

The IM audio video setup wizard works fine and recognoises the mic.
What I have noticed though is in the windows mic setup wizard no matter
which mic you choose, desktop/headset or such, that wizard never recognoises
any sound at all.

But if I open up the windows recorder app and record my voice, it works fine.

So hardware wise it seems the mic works fine.
But in IM it just doesn't seem to transmit the sound.

Its the gateway AMd 64bit 2 gig netbook and the OS is Win7 RTM 64 ultimate.

Anyone got any ideas? Anyone else getting this problem.
My wifes Toshiba laptop works great doing the same call. Same OS on it too.
